2016 Call to Artists


The Deer Lake Gallery, (Burnaby Arts Council) is now inviting proposals for exhibitions to be shown from February 2016 to December 2016. The Gallery will consider work in any medium and in any subject area. All ideas, designs and reference material must be the artists own work. The Gallery supports emerging as well as professional artists.


The 2016 Call is open to everyone. Professionals as well as emerging artists are encouraged to enter. The only limitation is that you must not have shown at our gallery in the last 2 years and that entries must represent original works of art. The Gallery reserves the right to decide which artists will be allotted solo shows, and which artists will share the space in a Group show. We encourage the inclusion of a community component in the form of workshops, demonstrations, artist talk or other community involvement strategies. There is no size restriction, other than what can fit through our doors or hang on our walls.


We accept only digital images/files for consideration. See specifications below. BAC will retain the submitted images of accepted artwork and reserves the right to use the images in publications and gallery publicity. Beyond such use, the artist retains fully copyright of exhibited work. Submission CD’s or flash drives will not be returned.

Digital Format: Digital images can be submitted on CD, flash drive or by email (send to: info@burnabyartscouncil.org) The email and online submission process is HIGHLY PREFERRED because it makes our process more efficient and saves postage and materials for the artists. Hi-RES, print-quality images will be requested for accepted works upon conclusion of the jury process.

Entry images must meet the following specifications:

FILE NAMING: All entry files (regardless of type or media) must be named with artist’s last name (underscore) first name, followed by the title of the artwork.

Please do NOT submit links to jpeg files (Google Docs, drop box or otherwise) Please attach imaged directly to one or more emails.

This exhibit has no predefined expectation for type, style, or media of work to be considered or selected. Submissions can range from the most traditional to the most conceptual, abstract, or experimental. The only criteria is that works must in some way represent or address the stated theme. Size limitations are mentioned below.
