Call for Submissions: Emerging Printmakers

Description

In association with the Firehall Arts Centre’s annual BC Buds Spring Arts Fair, the Firehall Gallery invites submissions to an exhibition of work by Emerging Printmakers. We are looking for work that works within the theme of ‘Longing and Belonging’ for a group exhibition running May 6 – June 20, 2015.

Our present cultural moment seems to be marked by fast transformations, which inevitably create challenges in our sense of rootedness. To belong is to feel accepted and protected. It is an internal sensation where we can escape a sense of isolation. Do we long to belong? When do we actually belong? How can we achieve it? And when we achieve it do we long for isolation?

We are looking for proposals that explore the tension between wanting to belong and the longing for isolation from individual to social perspective. We are interested in works which may explore new places that the idea of culture has for the construction of identity and its possible impacts on social connection. Proposals may use personal, cultural and political stories to inform their work.

If you have finished formal training within the past 5 years, we welcome your submissions. Works will be hung in the Firehall’s Lobby Gallery; an intimate space visited by BC BUDS patrons and theatre audiences throughout BC Buds and subsequent theatre performances.

Please note: Due to space constraints works must be no larger than 121 x121cm and all works must be ready to hang from a rail system. We welcome work in any 2-dimensional media.

Please submit electronically:
• 6 images with titles
• List of images, with medium, dimensions, price.
• C.V.
