Call for Submissions – MAIDEN MOTHER CRONE: The Economy of Women’s Bodies

The beginnings of modern capitalism between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries prompted a significant shift from village to state that restricted, medicalized and condemned female roles and female bodies. Capitalist propaganda instilled fear, accusing women of witchcraft when they refused subordination and participating in the massacre of hundreds of innocents. In the twenty-first century, we are still feeling these effects and suffering from the conflicting messages of female identity that capitalist culture offers. This art exhibition focuses on the relationship between a modern capitalist economy and the three stages characterized by the triple Goddess of Pagan religions: The Maiden, the Mother and the Crone.

Radical Spirits is seeking submissions for the next art exhibition, taking place in June-July 2014. Please submit your proposals for visual or performative art, creative or academic writing, music, or a workshop addressing the relationships between capitalism, feminism, and one of the three components of the triple Goddess: Maiden, Mother, or Crone. Please include a short paragraph about your project and any supporting photos or documents and send to radicalspirits.vancouver@gmail.com
