Call for Youth Artists to join the RAG Youth Collective

Description

Join the RAG Youth Collective, a group of young artists working together to create, learn and share art with the community. http://www.richmondartgallery.org/learn-and-create/youth/collective/

From September 2018 – June 2019, a small group of youth artists will meet every Thursday from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at the Richmond Art Gallery as part of the RAG Youth Collective. Each week, collective members will learn about the gallery’s exhibitions and develop their own related art projects with assistance from professional guest artists. In addition, members will plan and facilitate four large public art events for families.

Throughout the year, collective members will:

– Expand and develop artistic skills through hands-on workshops and guest artist presentations in a variety of mediums.
– Work with professional artists to learn more about contemporary art practices and the creative process.
– Build on a variety of job skills such as event planning, customer service, group facilitation, program development, and public speaking.
– Learn how gallery staff select, exhibit and curate artworks and programs.
– Develop a strong art portfolio for university and job applications.
– Meet and work with a community of artists and arts professionals.
– Acquire a minimum of 20 community involvement volunteer hours.

This program is a unique opportunity to meet other youth artists and engage with your community through the arts. All workshops, presentations and art materials are provided free of charge to those committed to the year-long program.

Program participants will be selected through a juried process by submitting a written statement of why they want to be in the program.

To apply for this program, participants MUST be between 15 – 19 years of age, interested in the visual arts, and available every Thursday from 4:00 – 6:00 pm plus one Sunday afternoon every 2 months.
