Call to Visual Artists: Lower Mainland, BC (Vancity Credit Union, 4th Avenue community branch)

Call to Artists in the Lower Mainland, 2015:

Vancity Credit Union requesting Expressions of Interest for a site-specific art commission for the renovated 4th Avenue community branch in Vancouver, BC

Our Project:

Our vision inspires us to think differently about wealth—to re-envision prosperity as something we can only achieve if we are surrounded by and connected to a vibrant and diverse community. Our values-based banking model is grounded in the local economy because we believe you only truly prosper when you’re connected to a healthy community.

We’re renovating the 4th Avenue community branch within the City of Vancouver to better reflect the way we do business. This branch renovation project includes an art call designed to engage the local art community as an integral part of the branch’s identity. Through this art call Vancity will select one artist or artist team to create one art commission.

Call to Artists in the Lower Mainland:

Vancity is now accepting applications of expressions of interest (EOI) from artists or artist teams who live or work in the Lower Mainland to design and integrate a site- specific art commission for our renovated 4th Avenue community branch.

Artist Information Session:

One artist information session will be hosted at the Vancity 4th Avenue community branch (Branch 11) located at 2233 West 4th Avenue, BC, V6K 1N9.
Wednesday, July 8, 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

We are seeking applications for artwork that reflect and interpret, in a celebratory way, the rich and diverse culture of the local community. Content / themes can be social, economic, historical, environmental or a combination. Preference will be given to submissions that aim to incorporate up-cycled, recycled, sustainably sourced, salvaged, found and/or other natural media.

This session will provide an opportunity for interested artists and artist teams to learn about the 4th Avenue branch location. Artists will also discover more about the community and the proposed art commission for the branch. Light refreshments will be provided.

Artists RSVPs by email are required to attend this session. To RSVP, or for more information about session, please contact: anne_lai@vancity.com.

The awarded artist or artist team will be awarded $6,500 as well as a supplemental materials budget.

The call for OEI submissions will stay open for mailed submissions until Wednesday, July 29, 2015 and until 11:59 am on Friday, July 31, 2015 for digital submissions.
