Encaustic Artists Legacy Project for Thea Haubrich

Canwax WEST is working on a project to honour our beloved teacher and colleague, Thea Haubrich. Thea inspired so many with her passion for encaustic art. She taught encaustic painting in the Okanagan. Thea passed away on September 25, 2013 after a long and courageous battle following several strokes.

A legacy fund has been established to carry on her work. CanwaxWEST is recognizing her life work in partnership with Leir House. Thea taught many classes at Leir House and they have agreed to host a permanent installation in her honour.

Thea was a valued member of a local group called the Rip Off Artists. The Ripoff Artists: a group of talented artists in many media who join forces every summer to interpret a masterpiece by a famous artist in their own way, to learn new skills and have a lot of fun.

We would like to “rip off” Thea’s famous Crows and Zen tangles. Leir house exhibit committee will determine art to be used in the installment piece. All other art will be sold and proceeds donated to support the Thea Haubrich Legacy fund.
