Wrapped in Colour is a group exhibition that will be held at The Deer Lake Gallery featuring the work of Pepe Hidalgo and Maria Voronova. Wrapped in Colour is hosted and organized by The Burnaby Arts Council. The exhibition will open Saturday July 9th, 2016 and run until August 6th, 2015.

In Wrapped in Colour, Hidalgo and Voronova’s cultural backgrounds shine through in this colourful selection of works. Hidalgo is a Spanish born artist who applies a poetic and often metaphorical language in order to reflect on closely related subjects of historic meaning and memory. His work depicts a suspension in time; a cord always visible as a connection between the present and the past. They have a visual realism of time standing still with a quasi-scientific precision. His approach amplifies the astonishment of the spectator by creating compositions or settings that generate tranquil metaphorical images balancing on the edge of recognition and alienation.

Voronova is a Russian born artist that offers in her work the magical realism of Chagall. Her work strives to nourish the soul of the spectator by creating compositions, according to decorative discipline, with dreamlike images in which fiction and reality meet. Reflection of the beauty of the real is interpreted by Voronova into dreamlike colourful works. There is an emotional intensity to her work, blurring the boundaries between supernatural and verisimilitude.

Pepe Hidalgo is recently living and working in Vancouver having completed his studies in Madrid, Spain and Utrecht, Netherlands. His work is both in private collections and is internationally spread. Maria Voronova graduated from the Art School with Honours and earned her M.A. in Fine Arts from the State University.
