Film Screening and Exhibition Opening

The Alternator is proud to present the film screening and exhibit opening, “Phulkari: Pieces of Our Shared Stories within the Fields”. This film directed by Rishma Johal shares the stories of several farm workers and farm owners from the Okanagan Valley, while critically analyzing the seasonal agricultural worker program (SAWP). This is a free event and a discussion will follow the screening of this film. Enjoy light refreshments as well!

The exhibit furthers the film’s critical analysis by questioning policies that dictate who is allowed to become a citizen and who has to return to their country of origin through the evolution of policies that have affected Sikhs and Mexican workers over time. Simultaneously, the exhibit celebrates the hard work that so many individuals in the farming industry complete every year to put food on the tables of Canadians through the portraits of these workers.
