Live at the Gallery, featuring Kyla Coopman and Rocket Fuel Band

Description

Live at the Gallery is a monthly concert series held at the Deer Lake Art Gallery. This month’s concert features local musicians Kyla Coopman and the Rocket Fuel Band at 7 pm on Friday, November 23, 2018.

Live at the Gallery brings music into the gallery setting, to connect fans of visual and musical arts. The event is an exciting mix of art and sound, from the sweet sounds of classical music to chilled out beats of local folk bands. Expect the unexpected!

The Burnaby Arts Council is passionate about promoting the arts as a vital component of our city’s culture. We take great pleasure in offering this FREE music concert series and welcome you to the Deer Lake Art Gallery! Live at the Gallery is an opportunity for Deer Lake to have another regular venue for local musicians to play and local enthusiasts to listen. It also provides an opportunity to subvert the often rigid structure of an art gallery by having an interactive presentation being held within it.

Kyla Coopman is based in and around Vancouver. Her style has been described as “dark jazz-folk”, and is fueled by inspiration from artists such as Joni Mitchell and Thom Yorke. Kyla’s debut album, ‘Mimic’, was released in 2010, and the single ‘Clean’ was licensed for the HBO Canada series ‘Less Than Kind’, which aired March 4th 2012. There are two albums in the editing stage at the moment, expected to be released in the Summer of 2019. Kyla has currently been developing new songs and putting together a solo show. She has also been developing her visual arts career, making paintings and sculptures. The wide array of artistic mediums that she uses all contribute to a unique cerebral landscape that propels the listener into another world.

Rocket Fuel is a new original 5 piece heavy alt blues-rock band with old bones. The band members have played festivals, theatres, clubs and bars in the UK, South America as well as local venues including the Commodore Ballroom, Studio Records and the Roxy. Classic 70’s decadence and flat-out raunchy funk slam headlong into the driving powerhouse of 90’s rock and alt-blues. This band has become a tight unit pushing out wild unhinged original grooves, combining bump and grind swagger and sensual unorthodox vocals. Hard edged intoxicated soulful lyrics singing about betrayal, loss, hope and need, are tinged with guilt and regret. These songs will take you on a gritty back alley urban ride through barrelhouse stories of forgotten promises and broken dreams.

Please join us at the Deer Lake Gallery for Live at the Gallery on Friday, November 23, 2018 @ 7:00 pm. Doors open @6:30 pm!
