Pop-Up Gallery To Roll Into The Pipe Shop
The saying everything old is new again will come to life when history meets innovation on the North Vancouver waterfront later this Fall.
The Pipe Shop at the Shipyards, recently reinvented as a gathering space for the community, will be home to the North Shore Artists Guild’s Annual Fine Art Sale, reinvented as a Pop-Up Gallery.
Relocated from the Parkgate Communty Centre where the show was held for the last 8 years, this signature NSAG event always generates great interest among area residents, interior designers and art lovers of every age.
As a counterpoint to the onslaught of mass produced and generic art being sold in big box stores, show organizer and participating artist Wanda Doyle says this year the organization’s exhibit has been planned around the idea that there is a piece of original art for every budget.
“By presenting the latest work in several genres and styles from over 125 of the Guild’s members” she adds, “the odds are you’ll find a piece to fall in love with and add to your collection.”
In fact, the pop-up gallery will offer art lovers a rare opportunity to browse and buy from a beautiful collection of over 650 original paintings on exhibit during the weekend of November 26th and 27th.
Visitors to the pop-up gallery will have the opportunity to enter free prize draws, get an inside look at the “art of framing art” at a display hosted by OPUS, and participate in a silent auction of 3 paintings in support of the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation.
Doyle says Guild members wanted to support the Foundation because of its vital role in the health of the North Shore community. “The LGHF runs the Healing Power of Art program. Art has a positive effect on our health on so many levels. Many of our artists have donated paintings to cheer up the walls of the hospital. In fact one of our members, Edith Warner, is now the Volunteer Art Curator for this art donation program.”
Warner and other volunteers will be on hand at the silent auction table to talk about how art donations can be made to the hospital.
Doyle adds, “visitors to our shows will often comment that they don’t have any more wall space and are surprised when they learn they can donate paintings to charitable organizations like the LGHF. And if the painting is appraised, they can get a receipt for tax purposes in return. Rotating art out of their homes so they can afford to refresh their walls and buy new art… as a painter, I like the sound of that!”
Based on the idea of ‘artists helping artists’, the North Shore Artists Guild (NSAG) has blossomed to 325 members from its modest beginnings as a sketch club almost 70 years ago. The organization’s members work over 3500 volunteer hours each year to run the Guild, making the organization one of the leading arts groups in British Columbia and a key player in the region’s arts scene.
The NSAG strives to both increase the awareness and appreciation of original art in our communities and help develop artists at all levels through education programs like demos, workshops and events.
The Guild welcomes everyone to come see the diverse talent on the North Shore.
