The public is invited to attend the opening reception of the exhibition Behind the Lines: Contemporary Syrian Art. Presented by the Penticton Art Gallery and the Cyrrus Gallery in Damascus, Syria, Behind the Lines features the artwork of 19 contemporary Syrian artists.
This travelling exhibition builds a greater understanding of Syrian people, their art, rich culture and history as well as the turmoil in their country. The exhibition includes a range of artwork including colourful abstract paintings, photography, sculpture and video.
The opening reception features a performance by violinist Sari Alesh at 7:30 p.m. Behind the Lines is on display at the Arts Centre from Jan. 24 to Feb. 5, 2018.
The exhibit is curated by Paul Crawford, Penticton Art Gallery and Humam Alsalim, Cyrrus Gallery, Damascus. It has toured BC and Alberta throughout 2017 and will continue across Canada in to 2019.
