Thank you to the over 70 artists who joined us for our first Opus Paint Out at the New West Cultural Crawl!

The Bandshell at Queen’s Park made for a beautiful venue – thanks to everyone who made this event possible. It was wonderful to meet you all and we hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did.

Opus joins the 13th Annual New West Cultural Crawl with the Opus Paint Out, and invites artists of all ages and abilities to come and create outdoors on August 13, 2016.

Let’s Get New Westminster Painting!

Share your enthusiasm for creativity with your community of artists and neighbours. The Opus Paint Out is an event that provides a unique opportunity for the visual art community of New Westminster and visitors to the city for the New Westminster Cultural Crawl (NWCC) to come together to make art outdoors.

This special event welcomes all ages and levels of skill, and encourages participants to join in the fun and create art outdoors this summer.

New Westminster offers artists of all media a wonderful variety of subject matter to choose from. Try your hand at a cityscape, a waterfront view, the flora and fauna around you, or even the picture in your mind that the day inspires!

Work in acrylics or oils, watercolour or pencil, collage or assemblage, or all of the above! All mediums and points of view are welcome.

There are prizes, too! All participants who exhibit their artwork will be entered to win draw prizes from Opus Art Supplies, so you’ll have the chance to end this amazing day with a little something extra to further your art practice!

Ready to challenge yourself? Here’s how:

1. Pre-register online.

2. Sign in at the Opus tent starting at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 13. Our tents will be located at the Bandshell in Queens Park, New Westminster. If you haven’t pre-registered online, you can still registered to participate the day of – just pop by the Opus tent and we’ll sign you in!

3. Find an inspiring spot anywhere in New Westminster & begin! Bring your favourite media and tools with you to capture the scene.

Create your piece – either on the 8″ x 10″ canvas panel provided by Opus (available in limited quantities for registered participants) or a surface you have brought, prepared as necessary for your chosen media.

4. Return to the Sign Up & Exhibition Tent before 2:30 pm with your artwork so it may be displayed for the exhibition.

5. Visit the Exhibition tent at 3:30 pm to view the exhibition and be present for the Draw Prize Winners announcements. All Opus Paint Out participants who display their work in the Exhibition are eligible for the draw.
