Saturday Night Art Lectures by John luna, Lecture #3: Aura

We are excited to announce that John Luna will be giving three Saturday Night Art Lectures this fall: Taste, Flow and Aura!

Lecture #3: Aura
This lecture begins with a willful misreading of Walter Benjamin’s famous essay, “The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction,” and ends with questions regarding how experiences of memory as moments in history are revealed – or concealed – by the ways we encounter works of art. What makes up the “aura” of a work, and what value does at hold as currency in our encounters with the contemporary? Some of our reference points will include Charles Baudelaire, Louise Nevelson, Mark Rothko, Susan Sontag and Luc Tuymans.

Lectures are on Saturday evenings from 6:30 – 9:30. Each lecture is $15. Lectures are open to everyone so please arrive early to assure good seats! Drinks will be available before the lecture starts and during intermission.

Thank you to Scott Vannan, of MacDonald Realty, for sponsoring these lectures!
