Smithers Art Gallery’s November exhibition: “Home” by Facundo Gastiazoro & Mark Thibeault

The Smithers Art Gallery’s November 2013 exhibition, “Home” by Facundo Gastiazoro and Mark Thibeault, explores what home means to different sectors of the community, what it is in our environments and our individual perceptions of home that makes us who we are. The people and places depicted in the show are not the instantly recognisable local icons and landmarks of the tourist brochures, they are the less-seen and neglected corners of our environment, and the individuals or communities who are often ignored or invisible in society.

The artists, although originally from elsewhere, now consider Smithers to be home and are deeply embedded in the Bulkley Valley community through a plethora of art projects from music, theatre, and soundscapes to murals and graphic illustrations. In this show, Mark and Facundo use acrylics on canvas, digital collages and installations as tools to make a powerful and honest commentary on our community.

Exhibition dates: Nov 5 – Nov 27, 2013.

Opening reception: Friday November 8th, 7-9pm. Come along and meet the artists – all welcome, free admission and open to all members of the public. Appetizers are provided.

Gallery hours: Tuesday-Saturday 12-4pm
