North Vancouver Community Arts Council presents

August 1- August 30, 2014

Opening reception:
Thursday, July 31, 7:00 – 9:00pm
Stop motion animation demo
Thursday, August 7, 6:30 – 8:00pm

Artists: Thompson Brennan l Mark Ollinger l Jon Shaw l Scott Sueme

This exhibition features paintings, sculpture and graffiti by four artists who are inspired by the ‘writers’ who colourfully mark our urban landscape. Each artist presents a unique approach to graffiti; an intrigue of urban decay and beautification, the traces of presence left behind; and the ‘writers’ themselves who are compelled to leave their mark on an urban canvas. Often controversial, graffiti can be observed as enhancing the mundane, defacing the ubiquitous or a making thought provoking statement. Undeniably, there is amazing artistic talent that exists in this realm.

Demo: Stop Motion Animation with Jon Shaw
Thursday, August 7, 6:30-8:00pm

Participants will learn various technical and artistic requirements to transform their own drawings or paintings into an organic, stop motion video. Jon will show a video that he created from the drawing process of one of the pieces from the exhibition as an example. Participants will be shown how to create similar animations using a DSLR camera, tripod, and basic video software (Quicktime).
