Visiting Artist Lecture with Alexandre David

Description

The Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies at UBC Okanagan is pleased to announce a lecture by visual artist Alexandre David on Nov. 27, 2017 at 2:00pm in UNC 106.

DavidAlexandre David creates works that are not meant to be solely looked at but rather inhabited or corporally experienced. His practice can be understood as a hybrid between architecture and sculpture, creating installations that capture precise instances in time and space. The viewer, in turn, is able to navigate freely within these new contexts. Immersive and encouraging exploration, the constructions prompt visitors to consider the possibilities of architecture within architecture (different parameters, freedoms and orientations), thus deconstructing the agency of space itself. Participants are called upon to challenge the conventional narrative established between pre and post-minimalist sculpture by engaging in new ways of negotiating fabricated space.
