An Introduction to Modern Calligraphy with Aska Djikia
February 12, 2021
Description
When: Feb 12, 2021 11:00 AM Vancouver
In this demo, Vancouver Artist Aska Djikia will introduce you to modern calligraphy and lettering, a fun and beautiful way to use the alphabet to express yourself. She will start with an introduction of this fascinating topic, covering how it differs from handwriting and type, and overview some basic type forms. From there, Aska will demonstrate a couple of techniques to get you started, including: faux calligraphy, bouncy lettering, brush pen lettering, and dip pen calligraphy. This demo will cover tips on how to improve your calligraphy skills and how to have fun with lettering and calligraphy drills. We’ll end with resources and inspiration, as well as an optional assignment that you can do to put in to practice what you’ve learned. Participants will receive a PDF reviewing the styles we covered, and some of Aska’s favourite resources. Feel free to bring some questions, as she will try to leave a Q&A section open for us!
This demonstration is best suited for beginners who are curious about starting lettering and learning some styles, tips, and resources as an entry into hand lettering and modern calligraphy.
