Beginner Painting Classes – Oil and Acrylic

WEEKLY CLASSES – April 4 – 25 and May 9 – 30
 at Ellis Art Studios, Kelowna

This class is perfect for beginners or painters who are rusty and need some direction to get started. 

You’ll learn the fundamentals you need to create paintings grounded in good technique. Learn how to prepare surfaces, maintain your brushes, use mediums, handle paint, and more!

Students will create a strong drawing layer before approaching the painting with value and colour. You’ll work both from photo reference and from life – starting by painting simple forms and progressing to a still life setup.

We will focus on:

• Values and how they affect your painting

• Drawing with your brush

• Different surface mounts

• Pigments and how they affect colour mixing

• Choosing the right pallet

• Colour mixing and harmony

• Touch on design concepts
