Blackwork embroidery is a traditional embroidery technique that was often used to add geometric and floral embellishments to the affluent classes’ clothing in Spain and England. Today, Blackwork is used as a unique way to shade realistic embroidery projects using black thread and a counted thread technique. You will be learn some common Blackwork embroidery patterns, and how to create your own patterns as you make a stitch sampler to prepare for larger Blackwork projects. Suitable for beginners.

Cross stitch fabric (often called Aida cloth)

-Embroidery needles (recommended size 5)

-Black embroidery floss (6-strand DMC)

-Embroidery hoop - roughly 5", 6", or 7"

-Grid paper and pencil
