The Journal Project: History Unfolding – Artist Commissions

Artist Commission for up to four Coquitlam (living in or working in) artists to create specific COVID-19 based artwork for our collection.

Coquitlam Heritage is seeking proposals from artists to create “journal style” art or written pieces chronicling their experiences of ten days of life during social distancing. Topics can include changes in daily life, mental, emotional or artistic effects of physical distancing, statistics, local impact, worldwide consequences, social justice challenges and much more.

Mediums can include photography, writing, illustration, painting and/or mixed media. Size restrictions will apply.

(exclusions apply for some organic based materials. Please inquire if you are not certain about your chosen materials)

Artists will be selected based on a submitted proposal. We thank all artists/writers in advance for submitting, but only those selected will be contacted. Selected artists will meet initially (via video conference or phone) with our Heritage Manager and develop their works around their chosen themes with occasional input from Coquitlam Heritage.

The completed works will be shown in a COVID-19 themed exhibit in the Atrium gallery at Place des Arts (1120 Brunette Ave, Coquitlam, BC) in February to March 2021(exact dates TBD)

Selected artists will be compensated with a $250 honorarium for their time and for the submitted piece (s), which will become a permanent part of Coquitlam Heritage’s collection after the Exhibition.
