Collage is considered one of the most important and influential art forms of the 20th century. This course will reveal how collage offers unexpected and strikingly appropriate means of interpreting and processing our image and information laden world. With simple tools such as scissors, glue and found materials, students will find excitement and spontaneity in class projects, while learning essential foundation principles of composition and colour. Slide presentations and discussions will focus on contemporary studio practice as reflected in artists like Ellen Gallagher, Wangechi Mutu, Matthew Bourel and Kara Walker.Tuesdays 2pm – 5pm, Sep 20 – Dec 13 In-person

Prerequisites

Suitable for beginners.

Suppy List

Items required for the first class:

- scissors (small embroidery type scissors if you have them)
- xacto knives
- glue sticks
- paper, different colours, odd sizes, can be damaged

Additional items to be discussed during the first class:

- metal rulers
- felt markers
- fashion and design magazines
- illustrated books (i.e. bird, animal, botanical) that can be cut up
- LP covers, (found) can be damaged
- mat board (odd sizes, variety of colours)
- cardboard (found, can be damaged)
- tissue paper
- tracing paper
- ink (waterproof India)
- watercolour
- gouache (optional)
