Join artist Peri-Laine Nilan as she takes you through her process for creating dramatic skies in oil pastel. Learn how the artist uses layering technique to capture the beauty of light, colour and atmosphere in her paintings. From stormy cloud formations to beautiful sunsets or sunrises, a few basic tips and techniques are enough to get you started.
Artist Supply List:
Fluid acrylic paint (for coloured ground)
Flat sponge paintbrush 1/5’-2”
Small sealed container
Krylon Gallery Series UV Archival spray varnish (satin or matte)
Holbein oil pastels, Sennelier pastels
China markers (white, black, blue)
Gator board or lightweight support (ie: cardboard)
Green painter’s tape or artist’s tape
Conte stick (white or grey)

Artist Bio
Peri-Laine began formal art study in Mexico, then completed her BA as an Art major at the University of Berkeley, California. She went on to complete her Art Education training at UBC, and a Post Baccalaureate Diploma in Arts Education from SFU. Peri-Laine taught in the public school system for 35 years. Now retired, the artist continues to work in her home studio, to teach classes and workshops in the community and privately. Peri-Laine is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, and the BC Art Teachers Association.
