Drawing Structural Portraits with Amy Dyck
Join celebrated local artist Amy Dyck for an in-depth lesson in structural portraits. Using graphite or charcoal (whichever is more
comfortable for you), you will look at and practice drawing the proportions of the face. Time will be spent focusing on the features of the face (eyes, nose, mouth, ears) with a focus on the overall structure of the portrait and how those pieces fit into the whole while creating planes of light and shadow as the form shifts away from the light. You will leave with a better understanding of how to create portraits that look realistic and believable while building observational skills (noticing and measuring angles, proportion, shapes) that will improve your representation drawing and painting skills overall. Artists of any level can join, but those with foundational drawing skills will benefit more in regards to building a portrait. We will be working from photographs during this course.
Please note – This class will take place in-person and online simultaneously. You will be contacted after registration to specify which you would prefer.
This is a fantastic pre-cursor to the Portrait Painting workshop on Sunday, May 2.
