Description

This drawing course focuses on some of the current themes in contemporary drawing such as: mark making, mapping, science, nature, architecture, ornament, narrative and nostalgia. The focus is on a mixed media approach to imaginative explorations in image making. Students use basic drawing materials such as pencil, charcoal, ink and watercolours, as well as a range of drawing surfaces including new and found papers. Prerequisite: Some drawing experience.

Items required for the first class:

- black conté and/or charcoal
- sketchbook
- pen/pencil

Additional Items to be discussed during the first class:

- pencils: range from 4H - 6B
- conté crayon (black, white, grey, burnt sienna)
- charcoal (compressed, vine)
- coloured pencils (a few assorted colours of your choice)
- blending stump (aka tortillon)
- pen nib holder and nib for drawing
- Chinese ink
- bamboo brushes (small and medium)
- eraser (white and kneaded)
- watercolours: travel sets or tubes (red, blue, yellow, violet, orange, green)
- plastic palette or small plate
- #12 watercolour brush (synthetic sable: buy a brush specifically for watercolours
- chalk pastels (buy a few individual colours based on your personal choice)
- oil pastels (buy a few individual colours based on your personal choice)
- rags
- pad of newsprint
- few pieces of grey toned paper
- assorted sheets of paper (Buy different types of hot and cold pressed rag papers. Large pieces can be torn down.)
