Expressive Floral Painting with Steve Williams

Join Steve Williams as he demonstrates an exciting and expressive approach to floral painting.  Steve will show how to paint convincing, three-dimensional flowers based on geometric shapes. From there, he will demonstrate how to capture the effects of light on flowers using warm and cool temperatures. Finally, Steve will incorporate abstract and imaginative elements with lively brushwork.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

Materials List: 

SURFACE: Panels prepared with 3 layers of Liquitex gesso.

BRUSH:
Princeton Imperial Brushes (flats, filberts and fans) sizes 0 to 12.

DRAWING: Red Coloured Pencil (Faber Castell)

PAINT:

Winsor & Newton, Gamblin  and Holbein brand oil paints in the following colours: 

Titanium White (Gamblin) 

Cadmium Yellow Pale (Winsor & Newton)

Yellow Ochre (Gamblin) 

Cadmium Red Medium (Gamblin)

Alizarin Crimson (Winsor & Newton)

Terra Rosa (Winsor & Newton)

Transparent Oxide Red (Holbein)

Raw Umber (Holbein)

Ultramarine Blue (Gamblin)

Neutral Black: His own mixture of 1 part Burnt Umber and 2 parts Ivory Black (Gamblin)

SOLVENT: Gamsol Odorless Mineral Spirits

Artist Bio:

Steve Williams is a Vancouver based artist, instructor and co-founder of Canvas Method. For the past eighteen years, he has taught painting and drawing and maintained a studio practice. Steve originally taught himself how to draw and paint with the aid of books and videos. After reaching a ceiling with his progress, he spent several years studying at renowned ateliers in France, USA and Taiwan. Steve has exhibited his work in galleries around the world including London, Berlin, Taipei and Vancouver.
