Expressive Watercolour Portraits and Figures with Atanur Dogan

Join Atanur Dogan as he shares with you his distinctive painting style in this multi-level class.  Atanur likes to use forceful brushstrokes that evoke the life and particularly the tribulations of his subjects.  He  will be sharing his style while simultaneously encouraging your unique expression.  Prepare to have fun and to learn about watercolour techniques such as utilising colour contrast to create depth and striking effects.  






Materials List:

Watercolour Paints:  Holbein, Winsor & Newton, Van Gogh, Qor
Colour Options: Cerulean blue, Cobalt Blue, Cadmium Red, Cadmium Yellow, Raw Sienna, Yellow Ochre, Leaf Green, Sepia. 

Watercolour Paper: Hahnemuhle 140 lb CP

Support board, for taping down paper such as plexiglass or plywood. 

Plastic Palette (16 Well )

Brushes (Minimum of one small, medium and large round brush)


Paper towels

Artist Bio:

Atanur Dogan is a Turkish-Canadian watercolour artist who graduated from Dokuz Eylul University in Turkey, majoring in painting and sculpture.  Atanur enjoys painting people of different ethnicities, focusing on their facial expressions and body language.  He is known for his portraits and figures. 

Atanur is the Founder and President of the International Watercolour Society (IWS), an institution he founded to promote and unite watercolour art and artists to bring peace to the world in 2012. It has become one of the most active art societies worldwide and there are over 100 countries with IWS branches.   

His significant achievements include being selected as one of five portrait artists, deemed best in the world by the Portrait Society of Canada in 2004.  Dogan’s paintings enrich art collections around the world and the museums. He has participated in more than 250 exhibitions worldwide and gives workshops around the globe.
