OPEN TO ALL LEVELS (Beginner to Advanced)! Limited to 8 students!

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW: This workshop will focus on helping painters achieve that ineffable quality of light within their paintings. Working from photo references, we will deal with the issues of value, color and edges in order to accomplish the alchemy of the illusion of light and atmosphere on a two dimensional surface. There will be time devoted to demos and the balance of the workshop spent on personalized coaching at the easel.

COST for 2 sessions: Member: $290; non-member: $340

Suppy List

Note from Instructor Gaye Adams:

Here is my list of pigments; they are what I recommend, but aside from the primaries that I suggest, if you have other pigments you are used to using, please don't feel like you need to buy everything listed. I have asterisked those that I think most important to bring. I will be painting in oils, but those working in other mediums should bring a similar assortment of pigments.

Acrylicists should bring the equivalent in their own medium. I would suggest a red other than Cadmium Red Light as it is too orange in most brands of acrylics. Perhaps a Pyrole Red or some other red that is more a true red.

Paints:
Titanium White *
Ultramarine Blue*
Cadmium Red, light*
Cadmium Red medium (for acrylicists only)
Cadmium Yellow light *
Pthalo Blue
Transparent Earth Red or Transparent Red Iron Oxide
Yellow Ochre
Alizarin Crimson

Brushes:
Bring an assortment of flat or bright bristle brushes for oil painters, or synthetics for acrylicists. Sizes: 2,4,6,8,10. It will go easier for you if the brushes are well shaped, springy and good quality.

Medium: Just Gamsol for oil painters; Glazing liquid and water for acrylicists.

Easels: I believe these are provided at Alta House. If you prefer, you can bring your own.

Photo references: I will bring an assortment to choose from, but please bring some of your own as well. Good quality, natural light with good exposure only, please.

Paper towels

Plastic grocery bag for soiled towels

Supports: Please bring only small supports; two 6X8” and two 8X10” of reasonable quality, either canvas or panel, well prepared.

Adjustable view finder, with a hole for color isolating.
