Introduction to Colour Theory with Stéphanie Prest-Beaucher
Primaries, Secondaries, Tertiaries oh my!
Have you ever wondered why colours affect your eye in a certain way?
Are you interested in learning about how colour combinations can create a certain mood or illusion?
In this introduction to colour theory class, Stéphanie Prest-Beaucher will be guiding you through the process of creating a full spectrum colour wheel using only the primary colours. The colour wheel is one of the most important tools for an artist, assisting them to better understand how colours behave and relate to each other.
Materials:
Liquitex Soft Body Acrylic Paint
Colours: Cadmium Yellow Light, Cadmium Yellow Deep, Cadmium Red Light, Magenta Quinacridone, Ultramarine, Cerulean Blue
Opus Bravura Brushes: 1/4” & 1/2” flat
Canvas 10″x10″ or Canson Illustration board – cut down to 10×10”
Compass or Bowls: 9” Diameter & 5 1/4” Diameter

Artist Bio:
Surrounded by painting and other studio-based arts her whole life, Stéphanie Prest-Beaucher is an actively engaged artist from Montreal, now living in Duncan, BC. Long inspired by vivid colours and the study of colour theory, Prest’s work has evolved as an exploration of colour, pattern and representation of physical forms. Most recently, she explores landscapes and seascapes. Through photography and the subsequent painting, she attempts to capture the serenity and tranquility that occurs in nature. She has taught numerous classes over the years such as sewing, painting, drawing and colour theory. She is passionate about helping artists learn and develop a practice and style of their own.
