Angie Marchinkow is an abstract painter based in Vancouver and Kelowna, BC. She was basically born and raised in Kelowna, and now enjoys splitting her time between the two cities, breathing in coastal cedars as well as the ponderosa pines of the interior.
With exposure to oil painting at a young age, thanks to the guidance of her artistic father, it was only natural that she would pursue fine art in university and on. Her background in theatre and stagecraft resulted in an ongoing exploration of everything from art installations, to painting, to the designing of elaborate gowns.
Angie lives for natural, open spaces- the glistening lakes of the Okanagan Valley, the vanilla-scented bark of the ponderosa pines, the deep hues of the coastal ferns, and the glorious rock that cradles both cities. Drawing inspiration from her experiences outdoors paddle boarding, rock climbing, and hiking, she returns to her paints to document her memories with emotive forms and marks. She works mainly with acrylic paint and other media on large canvases and wood panels, and sometimes takes her practice outside to examine and capture the landscapes of BC.
Her work conveys a sense of liberation and vitality of spirit. By adding, layering, and washing away paint, Angie leaves breadcrumbs of her choices in the pursuit of beauty. You are invited to follow her gestures, brush strokes, and energetic colours — from start to finish. Known mainly for her textured abstract acrylic paintings, she uses paint to express the delicate balance between control and expression. Each piece is a conversation around nature, emotional experience, and song. With bold brushstrokes, bright colours, and energetically-layered features, her carefully constructed paintings give a false impression of simplicity. https://www.angiemarchinkow.com/ https://www.instagram.com/angieanajones
