Madzinga Art

August 18, 2019

Description

“When I grow up, I’m going to…” thought six-year-old Jonathan Madzinga as he watched his father draw and paint. But Jonathan didn’t wait until he was grown up. Instead, he crept into his father’s studio and painted a huge abstract painting on the walls. Although naturally angry, his father, recognizing his son’s potential, forgave him. And the rest, as they say, is history.
While still in High School, Jonathan studied at the National Art Gallery and upon graduation, enrolled in the Mzilikazi Art and Craft Centre, both located in his home city of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.
Since 2002, Jonathan’s colourful art has been displayed around the world, and now Madzinga Art is coming to Coast Collective. This solo exhibition will take place from July 31st to August 18th. Come and meet the artist behind these colourful paintings at the Meet-the-Artist reception on Friday, August 2nd from 7 to 9 pm.
Jonathan is eager to share stories of his culture through his colourful paintings – paintings about life and living, and, above all, making people happy.
And, not only is his art coming to Coast Collective, but Madzinga will also be holding a two-day workshop during his show’s run, sharing his knowledge as well as his work. What an amazing opportunity to pick up tips and tricks for acrylic painting. This two-day workshop will include student exercise activities, instructor demos, and individual one-on-one attention. No previous experience is needed, and you will go home with a colourful Madzinga-inspired painting. For further details, https://www.coastcollective.ca/events/paint-like-madzinga-with-madzinga-aug/
