Mastering Acrylics 1+2 w/ David Langevin
October 14, 2022 - October 16, 2022
This 3 day workshop is designed for artists with painting experience in oils, acrylics, or even watercolors. Acrylic paints are relatively new and how to use them effectively is still a challenge for many artists. Techniques that are successful when using oil paints or watercolors do not often yield good results when applied to acrylic paints. This is because the physical and chemical properties of the synthetic acrylic paints are unique.
Although Mastering Acrylics I is recommended as a prerequisite, the first day of this 3 day workshop will be a review of the principles and techniques covered in Mastering Acrylics I. We will use the principles and techniques covered in MA I and apply them in 2 guided painting exercises: One with a coloured underpainting; the other using a tonal underpainting, or ‘grisaille’.
In this workshop the focus will be on learning the specific properties of acrylics and how you can use them to achieve fantastic results. Luminosity, color intensity, and mastering the transparent and translucent techniques of glazes and veils will be emphasized. Come prepared to take notes, ask questions, and to paint.
