Open Call – Artist in Residence
Coquitlam Heritage is calling for applications to our Winter 2023 Artist in Residence program. For this Artist in Residence, we are looking for an Artisan Baker.
The application deadline is January 6th, 2023.
About the program:
Period of Residency: February 6, 2023 – April 28, 2023
This residency program is open to professional artists from BC who are practising artisan bakers. The artist will be working conjointly at Mackin House, a heritage home located in Coquitlam, and at a commercial kitchen space if needed. The artist will have the space to practice their craft, develop new projects, or to work on existing projects. The artist’s material will be supporting our 2023 House Exhibit, Breaking Bread which explores the history of bread and its different variations from across the globe.
The artist will be working for Coquitlam Heritage 12 hours a week, from Feb 6 to April 28, 2023. Schedule will be discussed upon acceptance. The artist will be paid a fee of $5,500.
As part of the residency, the artist is required to provide:
- 1-2 in-person baking classes
- 1-2 virtual baking classes/demonstrations (ex. video interview)
- A baking display (i.e. A selection of baked goods made by the artist that will be displayed at Mackin House)
- 2-3 baking posts/recipes written for our blog
Eligibility
- Open to professional BC artists who whose artistic practice relates to artisan baking and have completed an apprenticeship or culinary school with 2-3 years experience in the field.
