Call for Artists Description
About the program: Period of Residency: June 3, 2023 – August 25, 2023
This residency program is open to professional artists from BC who are practicing writers or oral tradition based storytellers. The artist will be working at Mackin House, a heritage home located in Coquitlam. The artist will have the space to practice their craft, develop new projects, or to work on existing projects. Some of the artist’s material may support our museum’s programs and exhibits.
The artist will be working for Coquitlam Heritage for 12 hours a week from June 3 to August 25, 2023. Schedule will be discussed upon acceptance. The artist will be paid a fee of $5,500.
As part of the residency, the artist is required to provide:·
· 1-2 in-person writing/storytelling classes
· 1-2 virtual writing classes/storytelling discussions (ex. Video interview)
· 4 performances/readings of their work during our Music in the Square Summer Concerts
· A presentation about their work
· 2-3 blog posts about their work
Eligibility:
Open to professional BC artists whose artistic practice relates to writing or storytelling who have at least one published work/history of storytelling and public engagement and 2-3 years experience in the field.

Books
Literary Magazines
Journals
Newspapers
For Storytellers:
Video documentation
Performance reviews
Podcast/Audio recordings
How to Apply:
Application requirements: resume, cover letter, a statement of intent briefly outlining what you would like to accomplish and what programming you would like to offer (200 words), and portfolio 2-3 pieces of past work (max 10 pgs each) and/or 2- 4 video/audio links to a file share platform. Please contact us to arrange alternative transfer of video/audio files if necessary. Portfolio can be a link to work online.
