Description
This course will focus on how the combination of subject, medium, colour and surface can create a successful painting. We will explore how such choices can be used to change/enhance/subvert the mood, impact and meaning of a painting and affect the painting process. Students will be encouraged to experiment with different surfaces, work with a range of colour schemes and varying amounts of paint mediums for varied effects. Acrylic or oil painters welcome. Some painting experience required.

Suppy List
- Paints and brushes: you can work in any medium of your choice for this course (oil, acrylic, watercolour or gouache) or a combination for layering (eg. acrylic, then oil). Please have on hand a range of colours, a variety of brushes and any other tools you like to use to apply paint.
- Surfaces: A range of found, constructed or purchased surfaces are recommended (work, canvas, paper, metal, cardboard)
- Optional: found collage papers and/or objects to incorporate into your painting.
Please note: this course is about exploring and experimenting with materials so a specific list is not appropriate. Each painting project will require each student to choose the most appropriate materials and surface that suits their idea.
