Painting Florals using Gouache with Peri Nilan

Join artist Peri Nilan as she demonstrates how to paint flowers using traditional gouache paint. Learn the basic steps, from initial sketch to finished painting. Peri will share tips on what materials work best for gouache paint and demonstrate blending and layering techniques.

 

 

 

Material List: 

M.Graham & Co. Designer Gouache (Cadmium Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Red, Quinacridone Rose, Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Blue, Burnt Sienna, Raw Umber, Sap Green, Permanent White)

140lb cotton Watercolour Paper (I use either a Strathmore Watercolour Sketch Journal or Stonehenge Aqua Cold pressed watercolour blocks)

Watercolour Brushes (Synthetic paintbrushes that hold their shape and have a spring 1/2” flat, 1/4” flat, #3,#4,#8” round, liner brush)

CaranD’Ache Aquarelle water soluble coloured pencils

Masterson Stay Wet Palette

2 water containers

blue shop towel

Art Tape (1/2” low tack)

Artist’s Bio:

Peri-Laine began formal art study in Mexico, then completed her BA as an Art major at the University of Berkeley, California. She went on to complete her Art Education training at UBC, and a Post Baccalaureate Diploma in Arts Education from SFU. Peri-Laine taught in the public school system for 35 years. Now retired, the artist continues to work in her home studio, to teach classes and workshops in the community and privately. Peri-Laine is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, and the BC Art Teachers Association.
