Paper Extravaganza with SARA BURGESS

Plan your creative summer and join us for this in-person workshop on Vancouver Island!

This workshop is an intensive investigation of an everyday and yet so wonderful material: PAPER
We will begin by learning something of the history of this age-old medium and then gather inspiration from contemporary cut paper artists creating innovative work today. Time will be spent experimenting with different papers and tools for cutting. Through cutting, folding, weaving and collage techniques you discover the strength and versatility of paper.

In this workshop you will make different book forms and objects to apply the techniques. For this workshop you do not need drawing experience, it challenges both beginners and advanced. Some templates will be provided.

Suppy List

Arches watercolour paper (3 sheets - cold press, 90 lb (185 gsm)
o Ink or watercolours and brushes - small travel set is good
o Cutting surface (self-healing cutting mat - as large as you can
transport, no smaller than 8.5 x 11”)
o X-acto type knife and lots of blades (x-acto #11)
o Any tools you like to cut with - small scissors, punch tools etc.
o Any paper that you love - lokta, washi, kozo etc. I will bring some of
my favorites to share
o Sketchbook for working out ideas
o Pencils
o Eraser
o Metal ruler
o Archival paste - lineco neutral pH adhesive is a favorite
o Bone folder
