When:  July 30th @ 11am

Join Urban Sketcher Bob Altwein for a demo packed with tips, tricks, and insights for sketching on the spot. Attendees will be shown a variety of sketching approaches including using fountain pen    or pigment pen alone as well as combined with watercolour, coloured pencil and watercolours, acrylic watercolor and simply watercolour. Bob will discuss his experiences sketching around the world with topics ranging from commonplace subjects, people, objects, travel and social reportage. In Bob’s words, “Storytelling and how we see our world is an important component too. Let’s learn and discover more about: How mark making and colours can infuse an image with mood and atmosphere. What themes make good subject matter and engage the eye. The power of the page, working off the edge and having fun with composition.” Bob will also share some of his current favourite techniques, including using a variety of media all in one colour, sharpening twigs to draw with inks, and using white gel pen of black paper.

Artist Bio

“Sketching for me is not only about mood, mark making or form. It also attempts to engage or to spark a narrative. My sketching practice is often inspired by commonplace or inconsequential objects and scenes, but also by people and faces and sometimes it is even through the gaze of social reportage. I enjoy a range of settings from urban to wilderness too. Finally, my sketching themes are sometimes done directly or simply; otherwise in a more elaborate or detailed way.” Bob Altwein
