Did you know pastels have more pigment than any other colour medium? Did you know watercolour painting dates back more than 5000 years? Pastels offer a wide variety of applications and one of the most overlooked is their ability to be utilized in mixed-media techniques with watercolours. Join Royal Talens’ Art Education director Jeff Olson as he shares some of the histories of pastels and watercolours, their basic composition and working properties, and in the spirit of celebrating spring, some great techniques and tips for combining Rembrandt Soft Pastels and van Gogh Watercolors creating stunning flora and fauna effects.

Artist Bio: 
Jeff Olson holds a BA and MFA in painting and drawing and is a working artist exhibiting for more than thirty years. He has more than a decade of college and university teaching experience in studio art, and more than twenty years in the art material industry with product expertise in a variety of mediums including soft pastel and watercolour. Olson’s lectures deliver meaningful insights into the history, development, and application of artists’ materials.
