Wonders of Soft Pastels with Roberta Combs and Sennelier Soft Pastels

When: November 6th @ 11am PST (duration: 1.5hr)

Join master pastelist and educator Roberta Combs as she demonstrates the wonders of her favourite working medium: Soft Pastels. In this demo, Roberta will show attendees how she uses the rich, buttery texture and pure pigment of this medium to transform simple scenes and common items with beautiful light. She will introduce attendees to the behaviours of Sennelier soft pastels, demonstrate techniques she uses in her own artistic practice, and offer inspiration to all those looking to delve into the radiant, dreamy world of soft pastels.

Materials

A selection of high quality Soft Pastel brands:

Sennelier Soft Pastels: Great for medium and top layers

A few Rembrandt Soft Pastels: Great for base and medium layers

A few Richeson Pastels of their Pastel Basic Foundation Kit Conte of Paris Pencils 

Pencils + Pastel Paper/Pad:

Faber Castell Pitt black charcoal pencils (Soft)

Generals white charcoal pencil (universal hardness)

Sennelier La Carte Pastel Card Pad  OR Pastel Premium 320 Grit Italian sheets

Roberta will use the Sennelier Soft Pastel Paris Box which includes 1 half-stick of each colour housed within this range. This set is, of course, not required to create soft pastel artworks, but will give attendees a wonderful opportunity to view this line’s colour range in its entirety.

Roberta Combs is a Spilsbury Medal award winner in the Federation of Canadian Artists. Her award-winning work has been seen in such publications as International Artists Magazine, Southwest Art Magazine, and the Pastel Journal Magazine.
