Understanding the Magic of Artist Pigments with Anna Altwein

September 04, 2021

Description

When: Sept 4th, 2021 @ 11am (1.5hr demo)

Are you curious about the colourful powders which give your favourite artist materials their vibrant hues? Join multidisciplinary artist, and Opus Alumni, Anna Altwein for a highly requested and information packed demonstration on the history and working properties of artist pigments. Anna will briefly chronicle the history of pigments through the ages, share the origin stories of a selection of art’s most popular pigments and discuss the factors which give these pigments their unique properties. Through a live demonstration of 10+ pigments commonly found on artist palettes, Anna will share exercises attendees can try at home to strengthen their own knowledge of pigment. These examples will be shown in watercolour paint, but the information is directly transferable to acrylic paint, oil paints, and more! Discussion topics will include, but are not limited to, understanding transparency, lightfastness, tinting strength, granulation, pigment colour index, and more. Perfect for creative individuals at all stages of their artistic journey. Questions are encouraged and notetaking supplies are suggested!
