Vancouver Art Tour

March 07, 2020

Description

This annual art tour of Vancouver is organized by the Vancouver Island School of Art is a great way to get to know where to see art in Vancouver and learn how to access the city via public transit, including getting from Victoria to downtown Vancouver. We take the 9am ferry on Saturday morning and then head directly to Emily Carr University. We have lunch in the cafeteria (they have great food!) and then we do a short tour of the school including looking at the work in the galleries. We then walk to the nearby galleries (Equinox, Monte Clark, Grunt Gallery, MacCauley Fine Art, Chernoff Fine Art and Gallery Jones). From there we take the bus to the Rennie Museum in Chinatown for a 3:30pm tour of the newly installed exhibition including works of Barkley L. Hendricks and Lorna Simpson.
After the Rennie Museum, we head to Gastown for a dinner at the Flying Pig. After dinner people can check out into hotels and meet later for a night viewing at 9pm of the Spinning Chandelier under the Granville Bridge.
On Sunday, we meet at the Vancouver Art Gallery at 10am for a private tour of the Cindy Sherman exhibition. We will also look at two other exhibitions at the gallery (Lineages and Landbases as well Shuvinai Ashoona: Mapping Worlds) after lunch. You will have the option to have lunch the gallery’s newly opened restaurant: 1931 Gallery Bistro or at one of the foodtrucks near the gallery. After the gallery we will walk to the Contemporary Art Gallery; from there we finish off at Nordstrom for a tour of their art collection (for those who are curious check out the app art@nordstrom) and cocktail before heading off to catch the ferry home.
People who have gone on our art tours have raved about the experience because not only do you get to experience all kinds of art, it is great to be with a group of like-minded individuals with whom you can discuss all the interesting things that you are seeing. The tour is extremely well-organized and you are guaranteed a great experience. Everyone is welcome to join us! You do not have to be a VISA student.
Travel light as we don’t check into hotel until after dinner! Also bring good walking shoes and rain gear.
Cost: $75, dee includes gallery admission and private tour costs, as well as time and expenses of a very knowledgeable tour guide who has organized the trip and will be leading the adventure. Transportation and accommdation not included (see below for suggestions).
