VCT Visual Arts Open House

October 29, 2022

Description

Vancouver Civic Theatres is proud to present a visual arts open house of our fall art exhibition by Lori Goldberg and Terra Poirier.

Lori Goldberg – The Poetics of the Discarded

Goldberg shines a spotlight on the garbage that is so often kept out of sight and out of mind. Her canvases portray tumbling scrap heaps, lakes whose water lilies blur into plastic bags, forests shackled by industrial scaffolding. These are ecosystems that double as dumping grounds, reminding us of the debris that gets swept aside, left unnoticed.

Terra Poirier – Long View

Poirier works with long exposure pinhole photography to explore memory, place, and the disruption of both. She is interested in how landscape anchors memory, and how both are open to reconstruction. The porous, irregular quality of pinhole film photography is well-suited to represent these instabilities, especially in considering troubled and fragmented spaces, and sites of longing, confusion or grief.

The afternoon will include live music performed by Norine Braun. Music curation provided by Full Circle: First Nations Performance.

A free all ages event from 1:00-4:00pm in the lobbies of the Queen Elizabeth Theatre with a no-host bar.
