Watercolour Techniques with Michael Solovyev

Join Michael Solovyev as he guides you through painting a quick portrait in several layers using a dry brush technique on wet paper. He will be using Daniel Smith watercolour!  In the process of working, and with the intention of having fun and creating visual interest; Michael will demonstrate a few colour mixes and the effects, you can obtain with them.   







Watercolor Paper (Saunders Waterford 300 gsm, High White Rough paper. Possible to use Arches Rough paper)

Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolour Tubes (15ml tubes):
Quinacridone Sienna
Quinacridone Deep Gold
Alizarin Crimson
Perylene Violet
Cobalt Blue

Hake Brushes  (Flat goat brush around 1 1/2 – 2 inches)
Bamboo Brushes – (Calligraphy brushes – Multiple Types of HairWeasel + Goat)

Artist Bio:

Michael is often called a “sunny watercolorist” – his airy, transparent artworks look as though they emit the sunlight. “My main object is always light. I am equally interested in portraits, cityscapes, and seascapes. Sometimes even a pile of rubbish with beautiful lighting can become an artwork.” Born in Russia in 1972, Michael lives in Montréal since 2011. His artworks grace public and private collections around the world.

Born in Russia in 1972, Michael has chosen Montreal as his home since 2011. From there, his works continue to add to the beauty and value of both public and private collections around the world. He participated in 16 personal and more than 70 group exhibitions in different countries.Michael won numerous awards, including the 1st Award of Excellence on Elected Members Exhibition Society of Canadian Artists in 2019. He teaches five self-written art courses in the Syn Studio, a prestigious art school in Montreal, as well as private lessons in his own studio and many masterclasses around the world.

In recent years, he represented Canada at many famous watercolour festivals, including Hong Kong, Slovenia, India, Italy, France, Peru, Costa Rica, Mexico, Hungary, and Portugal.
