Cedar Weaving

Description

The workshop will educate participants of the spiritual
and cultural importance of cedar in Kwakwakw’wakw/Haida culture. Participants will learn to process bark to prepare it to be woven and also learn the technical skills of weaving. Discover techniques like twining, that have been handed down generation after generation. Cedar
has supernatural healing powers and has calming properties that facilitate a positive experience during the course.

Avis O’Brien a Haida artist from Alert Bay, BC, was taught to weave from her older sister. She is a carver, weaver, painter and jeweler who embraces the richness of her cultural heritage and creates artwork that reflects the beauty of Northwest Coast Native design.
