Description

This five-day workshop is an exploration of the amazing translucent, layered, smooth and textural effects that can be achieved when painting with sweet-smelling molten encaustic beeswax. Discover ways to colour, fuse, alter, and gild your collages, photo transfers and encaustic monoprints. Create 2-dimensional mixed media paintings, a 3-dimensional shadow box, and an encaustic book using Shary’s huge array of ephemera, unique papers, fabrics and enticing trinkets. Materials and techniques include coloured beeswaxes, alcohol inks, water-soluble paints, oil pigments, pastel, hot tools, metallics and more. Learn studio setup practices and a myriad of encaustic techniques in a fun and mutually supportive atmosphere. All materials provided in your supplies fee, however, students are welcome to bring any personal materials. Suitable for new or experienced artists. Classes are 9-4pm with optional evening projects available outside the classroom.

Special Instructions

This week-long encaustic intensive will be held at Red Deer College’s Series Summer Arts School in Red Deer Alberta. With 78 different courses across a range of artistic genres, adults of all skill levels – from professional artists to those looking for personal growth – will enjoy the five-day-long workshops. Participants stay at RDC’s Residences, which allows them to enjoy a variety of activities including instructor presentations by professional artists, open studios in the evenings, open model sessions, and a variety of social activities.
