Instructor: Carli Gaudet
Level: beginner

We have a new letterpress and this is our first letterpress workshop. This is a type of relief printing that typically uses locking movable type as a matrix to create a print. While this technology was primarily used to create text-based prints, it can be combined with other photographic technology to create images. In this workshop, students will learn to transfer digital files, whether they be text or image based, onto photoploymer plates that are then used as a matrix for printing with a letterpress.

Carli Erin Gaudet is a printmaker and bookbinder currently based in Vancouver. After studying abroad in Tokyo, she completed her BFA in Visual Art and Emily Carr University of Art and Design. As a printmaker, her work explores process and repetition, which are inherent to the discipline. Her practice focusses mainly in letterpress, lithography, and drawing. Carli has previously taught classes on drawing and painting, and has shown her work locally in Vancouver, as well as in Alberta and Tokyo. She is currently a member of Dynamo Arts Association and volunteer and printmaker at Malaspina Printmakers.
