Portrait Studies in Charcoal

Description

Instructor; Gabrielle Jensen. Working from life and photographic reference these drawing workshops focus on “the portrait”; and offer a wealth of information in mark making, foundation drawing and learning to see and select your subject. Students will be working with charcoal on acrylic ground providing a unique surface to best explore the many properties of charcoal and its rich abilities for expression using light and dark.
Workshop sizes are small, allowing for plenty of personal attention and encourages all levels of skill. Students are required to bring a 2b and 4b pencil. All other materials, drawing tools, and substrates provided.

Gabrielle studied Fine Arts at Langara College, Graphic Design and Illustration with Capilano College, and under her father, the late LeRoy Jensen. Gabrielle has spent the last 20 plus years drawing and understanding its essential foundation in the construction of art. Gabrielle currently resides on Salt Spring Island where she owns a picture framing shop, teaches drawing, and explores various mediums including painting and collage.
