Portraits in Oil

Instructor; David Goatley. Portraits are one of painting’s greatest challenges, but there are ways of approaching them that can help you rise to the challenge! Over this weekend we will explore the basic proportions of the head, the drawing difficulties of capturing a likeness, the importance of tone to building convincing form and the complexities of colour- painting what you actually see in a face , rather than what you think you know. Working from a model , we’ll start out in Black and White paint, progressing to colour as the weekend develops. David will demonstrate every step of the way, showing you the techniques that have made him one of this country’s most respected portrait painters.
