The Art of Gardens: Modern, Indigenous, and Guerrilla Gardeners

Today our environment is under siege. As such, contemporary gardens require a new, innovative, and sustainable design approach.

In this workshop participants examine the diverse applications that address current ecological concerns through the shaping of our environment. From integrated modernist designs, Indigenous knowledge and landscape applications, to eco-gardens, sky-high urban gardens, and guerrilla gardeners, the workshop covers the gardens of the present and consider the gardens of the future. The process of designs, built forms, materials and plantings, meanings, and their uses will be covered in the workshop.

Participants involving garden construction, horticulture, sculpture, architecture, philosophy, ecology, and ideals.

Teaching takes the form of field trips, hands-on drawing and photography, lectures and class discussions. There will be a class visit to Dockside Green on Tyee Road (no admission charge).

Prerequisites

No previous art or gardening experience necessary.
