The BIG Soapstone Project

$250

Description

Feeling daring? How about carving 20 to 40 lbs of soapstone? Produce a BIG sculpture. Join Stephen Norton for a guided course on how to carve soapstone from start to finish. Learn how to carve, how to deal with big stones, and to have a great time doing it. No experience required, everyone is welcome, beginner to expert. Take the plunge. Bring your own image and imagination or do a ‘chaos’ freeform piece. In the first class you select and buy your own rough stone (with some guidance and advice from the instructor). Stone cost is approx $2.10 per pound, many colors, shapes and sizes available. You choose the stone, and thus the size and your cost. By the last week, you’ll have a finished masterpiece, oiled and ready for display. Stephen is a long time soapstone carver and is the author of an introductory guide to soapstone carving.
